Collecting 'tal' palm
fruit, a favourite of Sri Krishna and Sri Balarama

Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math, Nabadwip. June 2004.

Left: the 'tal' palm tree in front of the nat-mandir.

Above: a local man climbs the tree and prepares to collect the fruit.

Below: the fruit is lowered gently. Old leaves are then trimmed from the tree.

We have two tal trees, the other is directly outside Sri Acharyya Bhavan.

The edible part of the fruit inside — a favourite of Lord Krishna also of Lord Balarama, whose chariot has a banner bearing an emblem of this tree. Krishna and Balarama went to the forest of tal trees, Talavana, to collect these fruits, and there They killed the demon Dhenukasura.
