All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga

Five New Saffron Brahmacharis

at Dum Dum Park Temple, Kolkata

10th June 2005

At 04.45 hrs Friday morning after Mangal Arati, many of the devotees sat in Srila Gurudev's verandah for morning darsan. It was short, and only later did I understand why the little Bengali that was spoken had caused such a stir, causing the young brahmacharis to quickly leave the room. What had happened was that Srila Gurudev announced he was to give saffron cloth that day, and in their excitement, the brahmacharis left to make preparations....

Sripad Mangal Maharaj managed the purchase and dye of the cloth so that at 15.45hrs, five of the brahmacharis that live in the temple came to receive the saffron cloth from His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj.
Happily displaying their first time wearing the sacred attire, from left to right: Ratan Krishna Das Brahmachari, one of Gurudev's 'kokas,' then Murari Das Brahmachari, Nitai Pada Das Brahmachari, Hara Prasad Das Brahmachari and Uttam Krishna Das Brahmachari, the latter four having received the Gayatri Mantrams only the previous day.
The five young monks stand with Srila Gurudev for a group photo...
...and sit around His Divine Grace with their hands together in surrender.
Srila Gurudev appears content with the young monks' mood.
His Divine Grace calls Nitya Gopal Prabhu, another of his 'kokas' (young assistants), to see the pictures he has taken. Srila Gurudev tells how when he was younger he very much liked to take pictures and thus his Guru Maharaj had given Him a camera that cost Rs38/- then!
Srila Gurudev appears in a happy mood and talks for some time with the devotees present...
...and finally chuckles as he is asked to smile for the camera!
