Day One | Day Two | Day Three | Day Four

28 February 2007

After receiving the blessings of our divine gaurdian Srila Govinda Maharaj, the pilgrims depart Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math in the early morning for the second day of parikrama.

"All those places where my Lord Gaurasundara travelled for Pastimes I will visit in the company of loving devotees."

The devotees very happily chant and dance along the parikrama path, following in the footsteps of Sriman Mahaprabhu and His divine associates.

punah punah piyaiya haya mahamatta
nache, kande, hase, gaya, yaiche mada-matta
(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrta, Adi-lila, 7.22)

"Sri Pancha-tattva themselves danced again and again and thus made it easier to drink nectarean love of Godhead. They danced, cried, laughed and chanted like madmen, and in this way they distributed love of Godhead."

The devotees stop first at the temple of Sri Vriddha Siva.

"There, on the border of Mayapur, Jiva Goswami saw the Vriddha Siva Temple. Nityananda explained, 'Lord Shiva is the guardian of this holy land of Mayapur. This is the place where his eternal consort Prodamaya is eternally situated. When the Lord leaves this earthly plane, by His wish the Ganges will swell and inundate Mayapur. It shall remain under water for one hundred years, after which the floodwaters shall be withdrawn. No houses will stand there any longer, and thus it shall remain barren for some time. Later, by the will of the Lord, people will again live in Mayapur as before. All these ghats on the banks of the Ganges will again become manifest, and devotees will build temples here. One exceedingly wonderful temple will appear from which eternal service to Sri Chaitanya will be preached everywhere. At that time Prodamaya will return, and by the Lord's will she will perform her duties of revealing His divine abode.'"

The devotees proceed to offer respects to Sri Vishnupriya Devi's own Deity of Sriman Mahaprabhu (pictured below).

On the holy appearance day of Sri Vishnupriya Devi earlier on this year, Srila Gurudev spoke of the manifestation of this Deity after Sriman Mahaprabhu left Nabadwip to take sannyas:

"Mahaprabhu, within His divine appearance gave some nourishment to Vishnupriya Devi, and told Vishnupriya Devi, 'You can manifest My divine form as a Deity.' And that Deity is still existing in Nabadwip, in Sanatan Mishra's house, with Vishnupriya Devi's father's family. That Deity is there.

"When Vishnupriya Devi by the order of Mahaprabhu wanted to manifest Mahaprabhu's divine form, first she saw two times, and she told, 'It is not perfect, it is not perfect.' Then the third time when she saw the Mahaprabhu Deity, she accepted this is Mahaprabhu's divine form, and then the inauguration of Mahaprabhu's Deity installation (happened). This first installation happened by Vishnupriya Devi.

"And Vishnupriya Devi is chanting the Divine Name and one by one putting some rice -- then how much she chanted! Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare -- one rice. Second rice, third rice, in this way, some rice. She is cooking that rice and giving the bhoga to Mahaprabhu and taking the Prasadam.

"In this way, she followed a very hard lifestyle and showed respect to Mahaprabhu's preaching."

The devotees stop to take breakfast paran.

Our pilgrimage party lastly visits the Samadhi Mandir of Srila Jagannath Das Babaji before returning to Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math for late lunch Prasadam.
