Audio: Bhagavatam's description of an eclipse must be so. Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj explains how he stood firm by the Srimad Bhagavatam's version of an eclipse - of Rahu devouring the sun or the moon - and received the support of Srila Saraswati Thakur.
"In our ancient shastra we find that they are always talking to the person, though to us it is dead matter; but they have consider them as person... The shadow (of an eclipse) when it is seen as a person, that may be Rahu... that is also conscious. Everything is first consciousness, then matter...
"They are dealing with everything as person, why? Because
before coming to the material conception they have to come through a particular process, and pure consciousness is coming to pure matter, then there must be some mixed stage, and that is person; person suffering in karma. Person means not a whole spiritual person, (but) as we are: a mixture. So, what they are saying and addressing - everything is person. It is real, it is not concoction. It is necessary truth."
