Adi-lila 10: The Trunk, Branches and Sub-branches of the Chaitanya Tree
Text 113:

The seventy-third branch of the original tree was Ramadas, the seventy-fourth was Kavichandra, the seventy-fifth was Sri Gopal Das, the seventy-sixth was Bhagavatacharya, and the seventy-seventh was Thakur Saranga Das.

Purport by Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad:

Another name of Thakur Saranga Das was Sarnga Thakur. Sometimes he was also called Sarngapani or Sarngadhara. He was a resident of Navadvip in the neighborhood known as Modadruma-dvip, and he used to worship the Supreme Lord in a secluded place on the bank of the Ganges. He was not accepting disciples, but he was repeatedly being inspired from within by the Supreme Personality of Godhead to do so.

Thus one morning he decided, ‘Whomever I see I shall make my disciple.’ When he went to the bank of the Ganges to take his bath, by chance he saw a dead body floating in the water, and he touched it with his feet. This immediately brought the body to life, and Thakur Saranga Das accepted him as his disciple. This disciple later became famous as Thakur Murari, and his name is always associated with that of Sri Saranga.

His disciplic succession still inhabits the village of Sar. There is a temple at Mamgachi that is said to have been started by Saranga Thakur. Not long ago, a new temple building was erected in front of a bakula tree there, and it is now being managed by the members of the Gaudiya Math. It is said that the management of the temple is now far better than before. In the Gaura-ganoddesa-dipika (172) it is stated that Saranga Thakur was formerly a gopi named Nandimukhi. Some devotees say that he was formerly Prahlad Maharaj, but Sri Kavi-karnapura says that his father, Shivananda Sen, does not accept this proposition.

4 December 2018

Disappearance of Srila Narahari Sarkar Thakur and Srila Kaliya Krishnadas. Disappearance of Sriyukta Dhananjay Das Prabhu.

thumbSripad Dayita Das Prabhu (Dhakuram Prabhu) passed away this morning in Sri Vrindavan hortly before 9 o' clock. He had attended mangal-arati as usual and played the gong throughout.
He was very dear to Srila Gurudev Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Maharaj, and he was the long-time servitor of our large 'Srila Sridhar Swami Seva Ashram', Govardhan. After becoming aged Dayita Das Prabhu repeatedly lamented that he wanted to do so many services in the Ashram as he had always done, but his body was no longer able to do so. In recent years Dayita Das Prabhu moved to our smaller Vrindavan Temple where he continued in service until this day.

Describing Dayita Das Prabhu's nature, Srila B.P. Tirtha Maharaj writes:

Once the very elderly and dedicated Dayita Das Prabhu, affectionately known as Dhakuram Prabhu, came up to Srila Gurudev's room. As always, he made his way slowly past the seated devotees to the front of the room where he intently offered flowers to Srila Gurudev's lotus feet. Srila Govinda Maharaj always would give his attention to Dayita Das Prabhu's offering ... When Dayita Das Prabhu then carefully gathered up the offered flowers and left the room, Srila Gurudev commented that this prabhu is very dear to Srila Guru Maharaj.
Srila Gurudev once gave him the instruction that offered flowers have special respect, and since that time, many years ago, he has always gathered each tiny flower he offers and puts it in the proper place.
Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj said, "He breathes, so we breathe; he's alive and so we are alive." He is so humble, no one would know his exalted position.

Audio: Sri Vrindavan Dham. Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj reveals Vrindavan Dham and talks about the meaning of having our temple at Seva Kunja. "Where we are living now it is Sri Rupa Saraswati Sridhar Seva Ashram... We have got this place for our spiritual practising life. But here to practise is very difficult because Vraja Dham is not mundane, it is the transcendental abode of Lord Sri Krishna, and Radharani's Pastimes here are going on day and night... This place is a very hidden and auspicious place. We can say it is Rasa Sthali of Radharani... Our Guru Maharaj was so merciful to us and by his grace we are here, but (be careful) not to make offense here."

Disappearance of Srila Bhugarbha Goswami and Srila Kashishvar Pandit.

Related to this day from previous postings on the Math's websites:

Audio: Srila Bhugarbha Goswami and Kashishvar Pandit's disappearance day, 1983. "Bhugarbha Goswami was a friend of Lokanath Goswami, the Gurudev of Narottam. They came from the same place and lived in Vrindavan together. Revered Vaishnavas of unassuming nature. Kashishvar Pandit was a god-brother of Mahaprabhu, a disciple of Iswar Puri. At the time of Iswar Puri's disappearance, he asked those two of his disciples, Govinda and Kashishvar: 'Go to Krishna Chaitanya and serve Him as long as you live.' So after the disappearance of Iswar Puripad, both of them went to Puri and surrendered themselves to the divine feet of Mahaprabhu."
