Diacritic Fonts of
Nabadwip Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math
A Short History
Several years ago when we first started using computers here in India, one of our earliest necessities was to have a diacritic font so the transliterated Sanskrit and Bengali words could be better presented in Roman text. Necessity is the mother of invention, and since then several font families have evolved.
We soon found out that each key on the keyboard is not recognised as a letter, but rather as punctuation, etc. therefore we systematically found which keys did function as letters, and proceeded to design the key layout.
In order to make the keyboard 'friendly' for the easy typing of each diacritic character, we used the very useful Control Panel "QuicKeys" to allocate appropriate user keystrokes. Thus a 'long a' is typed by pressing 'Option a', 'r with a dot under it' by pressing 'Option r', etc.
We hope that by sharing these fonts with you, you may find them useful in your service.
